Perfect month, for the first time ever.
I recorded an unboxing video of the Pegasus2 M4. I came across this desktop RAID for a fraction of the retail cost and couldn’t resist. It’s a really cool tiny RAID.

I like this little one… #ssdraid
It’s been a couple of months since I’ve had a chance to create a video, but I just posted a review of the 2018 Mac mini:

So pissed off right now. Spent about an hour recording video with a Rode VideoMic Go, and the mic picked up a ton of static from the WiFi base station nearby. The video is now completely unusable.
I need a new mic that actually has a shielded cable so I can use it in a room with electronics.
15 years ago today I committed to starting Gaucho Software by registering gauchosoft.com. It’s hard to believe I’ve been doing this for so long. Still absolutely love being an Indie!
Picked up a couple of Cisco 48 port Layer 3 switches for $20 each today at the local university’s surplus sale. Hoping at least one of them works so I can use it for my main network switch (will still have 10Gb on a separate switch/VLAN).
After 8 hours, still less than a third of the way done building the RAID. Once this is finished, I’ll have over 100TB of raw storage in the rack.
The only thing worse than 35° and rain is 28° and rain. #ice

I guess you could say Apple was…screwed.
Also: “The report reveals an interesting anecdote about the latest Mac Pro. In late 2012…” Yes, we’re still talking about the “top-end” Mac being sold in 2019.
On track to run out of storage on the 30TB NAS hosting my backups in about 3 months. Â Might have to upgrade sooner rather than later.
I photographed a conference a couple of weeks ago. Here’s a video I just posted detailing the gear I used to capture the event.
Made another step in the jump to 10Gb Ethernet today. Now I’ve got 2 of 3 servers on 10Gb and both desktop Macs on it too. Getting 8-9Gb/sec throughput, even without jumbo frames.
(Yellow is 10Gb, purple is 1Gb.)
There was an amazing sun pillar this morning at sunrise. Pulled over to grab a shot (just north of St. Johns, MI).
Had a great week in Phoenix for #AMS2019. EIPT had a lot of great content this year, and kudos to everyone who volunteered to cover gov employees who couldn’t make it (NOAA/NWS, you were missed).
See you next year for #AMS100!
I took a month off from posting on YouTube. Here’s a quick video on traveling light for the holidays…
Ate my #12grapes for the New Year. Happy 2019!!
So you’re saying there’s a chance… @NWSGrandRapids CC @Chasin_Jason @JTAllen3
Single core is 45% faster, and multi-core is 33% faster than my 6 core 2013 Mac Pro. Really quick.
My Core i7 Mac mini arrived yesterday. First impressions…
It gets hot. I’ve started calling it the hotplate.
The fan moves a lot of air. The airflow is louder than a Mac Pro.
The GPU is keeping up with dual 4K displays, so far.
It’s quick, really quick.
